IMPORTANCE OF VEDIC MATHS IN SCHOOL LIFE

--

Vedic Maths is the synthesis of two words — the Vedas meaning ‘Knowledge‘ and ‘Mathematics‘ meaning the ‘Science of Calculation‘. So Vedic Maths essentially means “Mathematics from the Vedas”. The Sanskrit word Veda is derived from the root Vid, meaning to know without limit. The word Veda covers all Veda-Sakhas known to humanity. The Veda is a repository of all knowledge, fathomless, ever revealing as it is delved deeper. Vedic Mathematics introduces the wonderful applications to Arithmetical computations (Which are included in the Class 6, Class 7 and Class 8) , theory of numbers, compound multiplications, algebraic operations, factorisations, simple quadratic and higher order equations, simultaneous quadratic equations, partial fractions, calculus, squaring, cubing, square root, cube root and coordinate geometry etc.

What is Vedic Mathematics?

Vedic Mathematics is a collection of techniques (Sutras) to solve mathematical arithmetic in easy and faster way. It consists of 16 formulas (sutras) and 13 sub- formulas (sub sutras) which can be used for problems involved in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, conics.

Vedic math has its roots in the Vedas — ancient Indian scriptures that were taught by scholars or Gurus. When translated into English, the word (and concept) Vedas means ‘the source/fountainhead of knowledge.’ The main allure of Vedic math for kids is that it’s one of the fastest mental methods of calculation. Mastering Vedic maths can help kids make fast calculations, which can be useful in daily life as well as in stressful examinations. Vedic maths for kids should be taught from a young age as an additional skill that will come in handy in their adult and school life.

BENEFITS OF VEDIC MATHEMATICS

  1. Less to remember
    2. Saves Time
    3. More Confidence and Concentration
    4. Personality Development
    5. Brain Development

FEW VEDIC MATHS TRICKS

  1. Subtracting from 1000, 10000, 100000
Carrying out subtractions from such huge digits can be a complex task. Subtracting any number from a multiple of 100s can be easily done using a Vedic maths trick. For those, you need to take the number that you need to subtract from 1000 and then deduct each figure of the number from 9 while the last digit from 10, for example, Let’s take 1000–578 Now, you need to subtract 5 and 7 from 9 and 8 from 10, i.e.
    9–5=4
    9–7=2
    10–8=2
Thus, the answer comes, 1000–578= 422.
This incredible trick can be used on any multiples of 100, just remember to subtract the last digit from 10.

2. Multiplication of any 2-digit number (11–19)
A helpful one for primary school kids, multiplication of any two numbers between 11 to 19 can be done with another prominent Vedic maths trick. It might seem complex but once you master it, it will assist children in doing multiplications in no time!
Follow these 4 steps:
 Add the unit digit of the smaller number to the larger number
 Multiply the result by 10
 Now multiply the unit digits of both 2-digit numbers
 Then add both numbers.
Let’s take a look at an example,
Multiply 13 and 18.
Step 1: 18+3= 21
Step 2: 21*10= 210
Step 3: 3*8=24
Step 4: Adding the numbers 210 and 24= 234, which is the right answer!
